Who doesn't love Julie, @jaybirdquilts. We do. And Julie loves chocolate. Brenda, Acorn Quilts, with her newest, most wonderful, have to have, I want it now, quilt. Brenda was in the Lucien booth with her new line of fabric. It is wonderful to say the least. I love roses.

Stash Blues inspired by Elly and Harriet

I took my first class from Elly Sienkiewicz in 1988. I purchased my first blue stash from the collection of Harriet Hargrave in 2002. This quilt was designed shortly after the class and it has taken this long to use the blue stash. I have designed many Elly inspired quilts but none with this many circles. A special thank you to Elly and Harriet.

Keeping a Promise

When she was a high school principal, one of my sisters made wall hanging quilts for each month of the school year. It was with the making of these wall hanging quilts that she learned to machine piece, machine applique and hand bind. Another sister did all of the longarm quilting. The Martin Luther King, Jr. quilt top brought an added lesson in using a light box. Each month a new quilt was hung on the glass windows that faced into the main hallway from her office. When January rolled around she hung her Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. picture which caught the eye of two staff members who each independently asked her if she was going to keep the quilt. They were disappointed when she told them she intended to recycle the quilts each month of every year she was principal there. She made them a promise, though, that she would make one for each of them after a conversation with them led to the discovery that they were both interested in hanging the quilts in their churches. It took a year after her retirement, but with the help of the sister who is a longarmer, she has kept her promise to make them. They will be sent out during the last week of September to the two staff members who will ensure they hang in their churches, which are on the east end of Long Island, NY. The original wall hanging for the month of January and the two for the east end churches are pictured.

When you need a bag just take it out of your purse. Pattern includes two different zippered outside measurment bags but same size bags when opened or a roll up Velcro closure bag. You can decide which one fits your purse.

On the Hour and Counting

This is a great quilt to teach a child how to count and tell time. On the hour block are numbers to look like dog bones. We used Moda's fabric line Max and Whiskers. The block next to or before the number has the same number of fabrics to correspont to the number. Andee quilted the quilt with clocks telling different times

When Duty Calls

Happy Independance Day. Our proud flag is waving. Andy and Gerry (our parents) are featured in this quilt pattern as we remember why we are celebrating July 4th. Andy is in his military uniform and Gerry holding up her arm muscle and her foot out showing support from the homefront. There are 50 stars each with the two state initials. Remember to thank our men and woman who give us the freedom to do what we do each day of our lives. God Bless America!

New Pattern from Spring Market - Happy Shopping

There is nothing worse than having a bottle filled with a liquid or eggs break on the way home from grocery shopping. Well there is but lets not think about what that might be :). These quilted bags are made to help with that problem. Large bag has four holders to keep 2-liter bottles separated and lots of room for groceries. Medium bag has four separations each holding a 1-liter bottle and groceries. Small bag holds six wine bottles. Very small bag holds one wine bottle.

Peek of Fall Market 2010

This is the collection that the sisters choose for "From Family and Friends" series. It is called "View from my Porch" using Moda's "Origins" by Basic Gray.

The whole collection will be used.

We will be introducing "Andy and Gerry" at Fall Market. This will be another series. The fabric choice should give away some of the pattern. The title is "Andy gives Gerry a Daisey". It is made using Moda's "Dream On" by Urban Chicks.

This quilt is dedicated to our sister Cheryl Ann. She is the first member of our family to get a doctorate degree. Cheryl recently retired as principal of a high school on Long Island. The quilt is titled "Cheryl Ann's School Days". Made from Moda fabric.

Patterns from Spring Market

I am not sure why I never posted these pattern so I guess I will do it now.

"Winter Memories of Christmas" is a block of the month pattern. This pattern was designed years and years ago and classes taught but never put into a pattern. It is now. It is hand appliqued and hand quilted.

"Chickadees" is one of my favorites.
"Seasons End" love this basket. Stitched by hand is a first in a series of hand stitched containers.

"Weeping Cherry Tree" is a tree I really wanted in my garden but the lack of lots of sunlight in the woods just wasn't going to allow it to flourish.

From Friends and Family is a line of patterns that will be made by the sisters and their family and friends. The first in this series is in memories of one of our brother-in-laws who passed away. The first one featured is "Heavenly Stars". There are two different settings for this quilt, one easier then the other. We picked a whole line of fabric to do this and we will continue to do this with the future quilts in this collection. As you can see from the pictures below, the first one is easier then the second.

"16 1/4 Hours" This quilt is made from a jelly roll -16 patch, a charm pack - 4 patch and a layer cake - hour glass. Hence the name. Pattern for a pincushion is also included in the pattern.

Let me introduce Ruth Jensen

Ruth Jensen did a lecture/trunk show at our local guild (Thumb Butte Quilters Guild) yesterday. Her children's quilts are one of the best for adding dimension and touchy feely for children without being pulled apart. Her childlike figures are sewn into the seams so it is difficult to be pulled apart by little hands. You will note I did not say impossible. Something else I would like to add is a special thank you to Ruth, as she not only made a pattern specifically for our guild but she also gave every member in attendance a free pattern. We usually number about 100 - 120 per meeting. Her tutorials on her web site are great.

Meet Lily. Is she the cutiest. She is having si much fun at Market and a very, very nice new friend.

So excited.....Pamkittymorning came to visit our booth. I am not sure if I am having more fun meeting my twitter friends or meeting more friends then I could ever imagine or spending money or laughing so hard with my sisters that pants needed to be changed.

And.......5 minutes before opening I had to change the booth, just a little.

I was able to get a quick moment with Verna Mosquera owner of The Vintage Spool. She is showing me her new line of wonderful fabric. I love the way she displayed them in photo frames.

I met two of the most darling young woman at Road. Meet Judy and Kellee. They were working in Susan Branch's booth. They would have made their mothers proud. I so enjoyed talking to them. Susan's' booth looked beautiful!

This is from one of the blocks from my Winter Memories - Christmas quilt. Most of the blocks have multiple memories from either my childhood, adulthood, wife, mother or grandmother. I spent years making decisions on just the right memories I wanted to capture. I think I have succeeded. The pattern should be out in about a month. Still working on the web page in the mean time.

Christmas Time

I love this time of year. I reflect on family members who are no longer with us and those who are. We have three family members who are ill and way to young to be dealing with their illness. Please keep them in your prayers.

We didn't put up our large tree this year as we donated it to Goodwill with decorations and lights. Through the years I have collected smaller one's and placed them around the house. The one above is one of my favorites. I will change the lights next year to white ones. The Santa and snow man have so much spirit in their faces that I smile every time I look at them.

The photo with the soldier was made out of our sons Army blanket. He also served as a Marine. The soldier reminds us of why we enjoy our days and the freedom to pray. Please keep our military men and woman in your thoughts and prayers. Merry Christmas to All.

I Just returned from East Hampton High School, Long Island NY. We spent 10 hours with about 100 students, staff and parents making quilts for our military men and woman who have been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. This is the fifth time doing this project and each one has been successful. We completed about 30 tops with this trip and bound 7 from our April visit. We gave a completed quilt to Sergeant Eloy I. Castano, United Stated Army. Sergeant Castano has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. A special thank you to Dr. Edholm for introducing this worth while program to her students. Another big thank you to AccuQuilt for donating an AccuQuilt cutter so we didn't have to hand cut all this fabric.

Newest Project

Morgan and Molly are feeling left out so I included them in this posting. I must admit that pink and green are my favorite colors but sometimes dark red and olive green just seam to take over my designs. Below is a sample of the our newest design using red and cream. I found an excellent way to use one of the Cosmo threads that Baileys mom, littleacorns, gave me. I love this thread. I am also designing using red and olive. Still on the design board but the fabric has been chosen.

Meet Grace..... my quilting Angel

Grace usually hangs out on the back porch and visits with quilting friends. But I am not sure they even know she is there. I took her out from her hiding place to show her to you. I think I will take her indoors to my sewing room so she can spend some time with me. She will enjoy seeing what is in the Sisters' Quilting Trunk. I just love her green color. Hopefully a hint of what is in the trunk in a few more days.

Today is day one of my blog. This past Wednesday I had lunch with Miss Rosies mother, Carrie, and Baileys mother, Bren. Look what I came home with. A book on blogging and lots of wonderful thread by Cosmo. As you can tell the book came in handy immediately and I am working on a project for the thread. How blessed I am to have wonderful friends!

What they didn't know until lunch was that three of my sisters and I have started a quilt pattern company. We are "Sisters' Quilting Trunk". More updates to follow.
